Ahead of the 2020 presidential election, Ben Pershing is joining the Wall Street Journal as a politics editor.

In a press release, Wall Street Journal Washington bureau chief Paul Beckett announced the hiring of Pershing: “His appointment comes at a particularly exciting time for our political coverage, with the 2020 race heating up and with the prospect of a larger-than-ever audience for our work thanks to the new partnership with Apple News announced earlier this week.”

Pershing joins the Wall Street Journal after nearly five years as a National Journal editor. He also served as a politics reporter at The Washington Post and was a reporter and editor for over a decade at Roll Call.
